This 200 hour Yoga ALliance approved program INCLUDES:  

EXTENSIVE TRAINING IN HOW TO TEACH Restorative, YIN & Hatha YOGA

  • Learning the functional and classical alignment principles of each pose, as well as how and when to modify them

  • Learning how to cue and demonstrate poses clearly and precisely

  • Learning the art of sequencing creative, interesting, and informative yoga classes and private yoga sessions

  • Learning how to give mindful, effective hands-on assists while maintaining good body mechanics

  • Practice teaching and assisting with partners and in small groups

  • Supervised practice assisting actual yoga classes at Black Lagoon

  • Supervised practice teaching non-trainees (actual students!): taking turns with other trainees to teach guests in special Trainee-led Classes at Black Lagoon

    • Trainees will take turns assisting and attending Singer’s Restorative/Yin Yoga classes in Austin. Trainees will eventually start co-teaching portions of these public classes (starting out at 10 minutes and building up to 30 minutes or more) with evaluations by Singer each weekend. Lots of hands on experience assisting & teaching Restorative + Yin!
  • Receiving valuable feedback, support, and guidance from the training team and your fellow trainees

  • Exploring various yoga styles and learning to incorporate your own truth and insight into what you teach

  • Learning how to teach a standard 60- or 90-minute Hatha, Yin, or Restorative Yoga class; and becoming adept at weaving these approaches into a single class

  • Learning how to teach a private yoga class skillfully, and exploring how the principles of teaching private yoga differ from teaching group classes

  • Extensive training in how to teach human beings

    • Learning to communicate respectfully and effectively with people from all walks of life

    • Learning how to assess and teach to your students’ various learning styles (verbal, visual, or kinesthetic), and how to teach to a class with mixed learning styles

    • Learning to see with your heart and not just your eyes

    • Learning to read the energy of your class and speak directly to the people present

    • Learning how to use your hands sensitively and compassionately to offer students heart-felt, respectful hands-on assists

  • Integrated, detailed functional anatomy education that illuminates the physiological impact and function of each pose, and the overall practice of yoga

  • Intentional self-development exercises and partner work to hone your presence, your sensitivity to energy, and your empathing skills

  • Specialty training in teaching yoga to people who are elderly or injured

  • Specialty training in teaching yoga to pregnant and postpartum women

  • Energetic Body training: learning to recognize the many layers of the body, from purely physical to purely energetic, and to work with the layers that are “in need”

  • Business for Yoga course offering advice for marketing, operating as a self-employed contract worker, and growing your yoga business

  • Examination of ethical considerations of teaching yoga, including teacher/student dynamics; personal and professional boundaries; and teaching with integrity and authenticity
